Chiltern Global Has Achieved Cyber Essentials Plus

We are proud to announce that we have achieved Cyber Essentials Plus, the highest level of the UK Government-backed, independently verified cyber security scheme. This milestone strengthens our commitment to protecting sensitive data across the police, military, and wider communities we serve, and providing added assurance to prime contractors and sub-contractors in the defence and law enforcement ecosystems.

Lewis Butterworth, Managing Director said “A huge amount of work has gone into shoring up our IT security infrastructure. Not only does this put us in a much stronger position for contracts going forward but this level of diligence is absolutely paramount in the industries we supply”

How Chiltern Global achieved Cyber Essentials Plus

We have achieved Cyber Essentials every year since 2018, but as our company has grown, and we seek to expand into uncharted territory, ensuring we have robust IT security has become vital to our growth. As a result, at the start of this year we decided to upgrade to Cyber Essentials Plus.

Since making a commitment to our certification body, Cyber Tec Security, in January 2025, we have been working hard to improve our IT security systems. Improving our access control, malware protection and patching are some of the major steps we have made, alongside our IT support partners, OnIT who have helped to ensure we meet the highest standards required for this certification.

What is Cyber Essentials Plus and why is it important?

8.58 million cyber crimes were experienced by businesses over the past year, up from 7.78 million the previous year. This highlights the how essential it is for businesses to incorporate good IT security practices. A step up from Cyber Essentials, which is a self-assessed and evidenced assessment, Cyber Essentials Plus delves much deeper.

Cyber Essentials tests 5 key fundamental controls; secure configuration, user access control, malware protection, security update management, and firewalls. Whilst Cyber Essentials ensures you have these controls, Cyber Essentials Plus puts them to the test with an independent assessor, who does a hands-on test of your systems and processes.

Whilst you can never be 100% safe from cyber threats, Cyber Essentials Plus can help to safeguard businesses against up to 80% of common online security threats.

Why Cyber Essentials Plus matters for Defence Manufacturing and Law Enforcement Manufacturing

As a trusted supplier to defence prime contractors and multiple police framework agreements, achieving Cyber Essentials Plus gives our partners confidence that their sensitive data and specifications are protected to the highest independently verified standard.

For defence, this means intellectual property, technical designs, and testing information can be shared securely within the supply chain. For policing, it provides reassurance that operationally sensitive framework requirements such as unit-specific specifications, delivery locations, and order schedules are safeguarded against the most common cyber threats.

Meeting Cyber Essentials Plus is a prerequisite for any supplier managing official government data, as stipulated by Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 09/23. Achieving this standards puts us in a prime position to enter into police and defence supply chains and strengthens the trust placed in us to support front-line services with integrity and reliability. This certification reinforces our resilience across both sectors and demonstrates our commitment to delivering with security and assurance at every level.
